in- (not) + Latin securus, which itself is se- (without) + cura (care, worry) — literally 'without worry'. So insecure is 'not without worry': the thing still needs watching. That is why the word runs so easily from a wall to a bank account to a feeling — in every case something is still asking to be worried about.
in-（不）加上拉丁文 secūrus，而 secūrus 本身是 se-（沒有）+ cūra（掛心、憂慮），字面就是「不用擔心的」。所以 insecure 拆到底是「還是得擔心的」——那個東西還沒有讓你放下心來。這正好說明為什麼這個字可以從一面牆滑到一個銀行帳戶、再滑到一種心情：每一種情況裡，都還有東西懸在那裡，向你討一份不安。同一個 cūra 也躲在 cure、curious 裡。
