money/property inherited · noun · C2
Money, land, a house, or other things that come to you after someone in your family has died.
遺產
One way to picture it: something is handed down the line to you from those who came before. You did not earn it or choose it — it arrives because of who you are and where you come from.
From Middle English enheritaunce, from Old French enheriter, ultimately from Latin hērēs (heir) — the one who takes over what a person leaves behind. The core is the handing-down itself.
payload origin note (Middle English enheritaunce ← Anglo-Norman/Old French enheritaunce ← enheriter; inherit + -ance)
