From Old French estoire, Latin historia, from Greek historia 'learning through research'.
源自希臘文 historia「研究得來的知識」，經拉丁文、古法文傳入。
You can picture history as everything that has already happened, laid out behind us like a long road we've travelled. From that one idea grow three things: the events themselves, the study of them, and the written record that keeps them. The all play on the same picture — once something is 'in history', it's fixed in that road behind us and won't change.
