From Middle English hunger, from Old English hungor 'hunger, desire'; cognate with German Hunger.

源自古英文 hungor「飢餓、渴望」，和德文 Hunger 同源。

You can picture the empty, pulling feeling in your stomach when your body needs food — a lack that keeps asking to be filled. From that one bodily feeling the word stretches two ways: to a whole population who cannot fill it, and sideways to any strong want that pulls at you the same way.
