From Middle English greyn, from Old French grain, from Latin grānum 'seed'.
源自古法文 grain，來自拉丁文 grānum「種子」。
Picture one hard little seed of wheat sitting in your palm: the smallest solid piece of something that normally comes in huge quantities. From that one seed you can look two ways — to the whole harvest poured into a sack, and to the fine, repeating structure that a heap of tiny pieces makes.
