The thing is not burning or glowing; it is sending light back, so a glint needs a light source somewhere and a hard shiny surface to bounce off. Everything the word does grows out of that half second: you can watch it from the object's side or the light's side, you can count it as one flash, and you can put it on a person's face, where a feeling shows for a moment and is put away again.

The supplied evidence takes glint from Scots glint, from Middle English glenten, to shine, gleam, flash, probably from Old Norse, and back to a root meaning to shine. The oldest recorded meaning is already a flash rather than a steady light, which is why short is built into the word and not added by the sentence around it.
資料上 glint 來自蘇格蘭語 glint，更早是中古英文 glenten（發光、閃一下），可能源自古北歐語，最上游的字根就是「發亮」。最早記下來的意思本來就是「閃一下」，不是持續地亮。所以「短」這件事是字本身就有的，不是靠句子補的。
