adjective · B1
A long way away from the place where you are, used about lands, countries, places and things you can only just see or reach.
Picture yourself standing still and looking out. Something is so far out there that it has lost its detail: a coastline is just a line, an island is just a shape. You can see it, but you cannot reach it from where you stand. Far-off can be thought of as that view, and English lets you point it at a place or at a time.

adjective · B2
Belonging to a time long ago, and feeling a long way back from now.
