From Old French endosser 'to put on the back', from Latin dorsum 'back' — the same root as dorsal (dorsal fin). The word literally means to write on the back of a document.
來自古法文 endosser「放到背面」，字根是拉丁文 dorsum（背），跟 dorsal fin（背鰭）的 dorsal 同源。所以 endorse 字面上就是「寫在背面」——支票背書那個意思其實是最原始的動作，其他用法都是從那個「在背面簽下自己的名字」延伸出去的。
