To say that something or someone is good, so that another person might choose or use them.

You can picture recommend as 'holding something up to someone and saying: this is good, take it'. You put a thing, a person, or a course of action forward as worth choosing. From that gesture grow 'I advise you to do this (because I know about it)' and the fixed phrase that measures how much good a thing has to be put forward in the first place.
可以想成 recommend 是「把某樣東西舉到別人面前，說：這個好，你拿去吧」。你把一件東西、一個人、或一個做法推到對方眼前，當成值得選的來介紹。從這個動作長出「我建議你這麼做（因為我內行）」，以及一個衡量「一樣東西到底有多少好處可以拿出來說嘴」的固定片語。

From Medieval Latin recommendare, from re- + commendare 'to commit to one's care, to entrust; to praise'. To recommend is at root to entrust something to another while praising it — putting it forward as worth their care.
源自中世紀拉丁文 recommendare，由 re- 加 commendare（託付、交付照管；稱讚）組成。recommend 的底層動作比較像「一邊稱讚、一邊把某物交託給別人」——把它推到對方面前，當成值得他接手的好東西。
