Latin constituere = con- (together) + statuere (to set up, to place standing), from stare 'to stand'. To set things up together so they stand as one thing.
拉丁文 cōnstituō 由 con-（一起）加 statuō（豎立、安置）組成，而 statuō 又來自 stare（站）。字面是「把東西一起立起來、安置好」。這條「站」的字根同時給了英文 statue、status、stable、institute，都帶著「立在那裡、定下來」的手感——也正是 constitute 那份「擺好之後就成立了」的正式味道的來源。
