Colour is what your eyes catch when light bounces off a thing — the redness of an apple, the blue of the sky. From that one perception (a thing 'has' a colour) everything else grows: the stuff that puts colour on (paint, dye), the colour in a person's skin or cheeks, and then a jump to the figurative — the 'colour' a story or a team carries, the way one thing can tint how you see another.
