    a person, or a company, whose job is to build houses and other buildings, or to repair them.

    「builder」是 build（蓋）加上 -er，所以可以想成「做蓋房子這件事的那一方」。這個「那一方」可以是一個人（來你家修屋頂的師傅），也可以是一家公司（蓋整片社區的建商），英文用同一個字。另外，builder 不只蓋新的，修舊的也算；跟 architect 分工不同——architect 畫設計圖，builder 動手蓋和修。

Think of the person whose actual job is putting a building up — laying bricks, raising walls, fixing a roof that has gone bad. The word stretches from one person on site to the whole company that takes on the work, but the picture stays the same: the one who does the building, not the one who designs it or lives in it.
