From Latin terror 'great fear, dread', from terrere 'to fill with fear, to frighten'. The word starts life as the feeling itself — being filled with fear.

來自拉丁文 terror「巨大的恐懼」，源自動詞 terrere「使人充滿恐懼、嚇壞」。這個字最早指的就是「被恐懼灌滿」的那種感覺，所以核心一直是那份強烈的害怕本身。
