fix/repair · verb · A2
To fix something that is broken, damaged, or not working.
Something was working, then it broke. You go in, put the parts back where they belong, and it works again. The key is that repair always looks backwards: there was a good state before, and the job is to get back to it - which is why the same word stretches to things you cannot hold, like trust or a reputation.
