核心畫面

Take a whole thing — a pizza, an hour, a year, a dollar — and cut it into four equal pieces. One of those pieces is a 'quarter'. From that single act of cutting-into-fourths, the word spreads: a quarter of an hour, a quarter of a year, a 25-cent coin (a quarter of a dollar), a quarter of a game. A second, older thread runs underneath — a 'quarter' as a place or direction you're posted to — which gives the city-district and the soldiers'-lodging senses.
