核心畫面

You can picture phase as one slice of a process that moves through in order: not the whole thing at once, but the particular point it has reached right now. Because a phase is a point along a cycle, two cycles can be lined up at the same point (in phase) or sitting at different points (out of phase); the Moon's changing shapes are just the points it has reached in its own cycle; and to phase something in is to bring it on one slice at a time instead of all at once.
