From Middle English partener, an alteration (after part) of parcener, from Old French parçonier 'joint heir', from Latin partītiō 'portion'.
中古英文 parcener「共同繼承人」受 part 影響而變來。
You can picture a partner as the one person standing on the same side as you, sharing the same job — the two of you paired up, doing one thing together so that what happens to one happens to both. Hold that one picture and the rest follow: the person you share a dance or a game with, the person you share a business with, the person you share your life with, a country that shares an agreement with yours, and the verb that simply means to pair up with someone like this.
