From Latin opponere 'to set against', from ob- 'in front of, against' + ponere 'to put, place' — literally placing one thing across from another. It entered English first as an astronomy term for two heavenly bodies exactly across the sky from each other, before it meant resistance.
來自拉丁文 opponere（擺到對面去），由 ob-（在前面、對著）加 ponere（放、擺）組成，字面就是「把一個東西擺到另一個的正對面」。它最早進英文時是天文用語，指兩顆星體在天上剛好正對，之後才引申出「抗拒、反對」。
