Used to say that it is a good thing something happened or was done, because without it the situation would have been unpleasant or difficult.

「luckily」是一個管整句話的副詞，通常放在句首加逗號，或接在 but 後面。它說的不是「某人運氣好」，而是「還好有這件事，不然就麻煩了」——所以每個 luckily 的句子背後，都藏著一個沒有發生的壞結果。可以想成：luck（沒計畫到的好事）長出 lucky（幸運的），再加 -ly 之後它就跳出動詞的位置，替整句話講話，變成說話的人對事情結果的評語。fortunately 意思幾乎一樣，只是比較正式、比較常出現在文章裡。

You can think of it as the speaker back and pointing at one thing that saved the situation. It doesn't describe how someone did something — it comments on the whole story: things could easily have gone badly, and this one detail is why they didn't.
