    Luckless means you have no luck in the thing you are trying to do — the job, the game, the search keeps going wrong. It is a real word, a little old-fashioned or story-like. Though actually, almost everybody says unlucky instead. You will still meet luckless in headlines (“the luckless ”), novels and slightly talk, often with a shade of pity: not only “the odds were bad”, but “this poor person cannot catch a break”. It can describe people or their attempts: a luckless attempt, a luckless season. It does not automatically mean your whole life is unlucky unless the sentence says so; it usually points at one stretch of bad fortune.
