joining into one · noun · C1
The act of joining two or more things together so that they work well as one.
You can think of 'integration' as taking separate pieces and making them into one working whole — not just piling them next to each other, but joining them so they belong together and run as one. Whether the pieces are software systems or people, the picture is the same: many, blended into one that works.
From Latin integrare 'to make whole, renew', from integer 'whole' (in- 'not' + root of tangere 'to touch'). Integration is literally the act of making things whole — turning separate parts into one untouched-looking unit.
