- 1
Consolidation is the process of combining several separate things into one, usually stronger or more efficient, whole. Companies go through consolidation when smaller businesses merge into one bigger company; people talk about 'debt consolidation,' where several smaller debts are combined into a single loan, often with a simpler payment plan. It's also used more generally for making something more solid or secure, like 'the consolidation of power' by a leader — gradually making their control firmer and harder to challenge.
