核心畫面

One way to hold this word: something is keeping a space open inside itself, and then it stops being able to. Whatever was outside pushes in, and the thing drops into its own middle. Nothing flies at you. What is left is smaller than what you started with, and it happens in one breath.

可以想成:有個東西正撐著自己裡面的一塊空間,然後它撐不住了。外面的力量壓進來,它就往自己的中間掉下去。東西不會朝你飛更多收起可以想成:有個東西正撐著自己裡面的一塊空間,然後它撐不住了。外面的力量壓進來,它就往自己的中間掉下去。東西不會朝你飛過來,反而整個縮小。而且這一切幾乎是一瞬間發生的。這個畫面裡最要緊的就是方向:往內,不是往外。

From the word’s history

The packet's source says the verb is a back-formation from the noun implosion: the name of the event came first, and the verb was made from it.

packet 的來源說 implode 是從名詞 implosion 逆推出來的動詞。先有「內爆」這個現象的名稱,才有這個動作說法。這也解釋了為什麼它的意思這麼專注在同一個畫面上:它本來就是為了這個現象而生的字。

往內塌陷的東西

這一組就是核心畫面本身:實體的東西往內塌。差別只在有沒有人在操作。

verb · C1

If something implodes, it suddenly breaks and falls inwards into its own empty space, because the push from outside it is much stronger than the push from inside.

向內爆裂

組織與體系整個垮掉

把核心畫面搬到看不見的東西上。公司、團隊、貿易,本來也是靠某種東西撐著;撐的東西一沒了,它們一樣是往自己裡面陷,而不是被外力打倒。

verb · C1

If a company, team, plan or system implodes, it stops working and falls apart very quickly and completely, usually because of problems inside it that were already there.
