Latin exsilium ('state of exile') comes from exsul, 'a person driven out' — the word names the condition of being outside, which is exactly the modern picture: not where you belong.
拉丁文 exsilium 的意思就是「流亡這個狀態」，而它來自 exsul（被逐出的人），ex- 是「出去」。也就是說，這個字從一開始講的就不是旅行或搬家，而是「被弄到外面去」這件事本身——現代英文用的還是同一個畫面。
