You can think of environment as everything that surrounds you — the ring of people, places, and conditions you sit inside. Imagine standing in the middle and looking outward in every direction: whatever you, shapes how you live, and presses in on you from all sides is your environment. The famous 'nature' meaning is just this same ring drawn at planet-scale.
