A habitat is the natural home of a plant or animal — the forest, river, desert, reef, or even a crack in a wall — where that living thing can find food, water, shelter, and the right weather. It is not a person’s house, and it is not a “habit” (a thing you do again and again), though the two words sit next to each other on the page and trick the eye. use it as a plain technical word; newspapers use it when a forest is cut down and animals “lose their habitat.” People do stretch it to humans (“urban habitat”) in a or academic way, but the solid centre is still plants and animals and the kind of place they belong in.

From Latin habitat 'it dwells', from habitō; Linnaean range descriptions began 'Habitat in…'.
借自拉丁文 habitat「它住在」，源自 habitō「居住」。
組成From Latin habitat, “it dwells, lives” — the “he/she/it lives” form of habitō. In Linnaeus and similar writers, a species’ range was often a Latin sentence beginning Habitat… (“It lives in…”), and English turned that verb form into a noun for the place itself. The same kind of jump happened with words like exit.
