An environmentalist is a person who cares about protecting the natural world — air, water, trees, animals, the climate — and tries to stop people harming it. They may change how they live, join a group, speak to a government, or ask a factory to stop dumping waste.
Though actually, it is also a label people put on each other. Some wear it proudly. Others say it as a slight, as if the person loves trees more than jobs or ordinary life. That fight is about , not about the dictionary. Not every environmentalist stands in the street; some work in labs, offices, or farms. The word can sit in front of another noun too: an environmentalist group, environmentalist ideas — meaning “of that way of thinking.” It is a normal, slightly formal word, not slang.
組成environmental（關於環境的）+ -ist（做那件事或相信那件事的人）。From environmental + -ist. The -ist piece came into English from Greek through Latin and French.
