The act of producing tears from your eyes, and the sound that goes with it, usually because you are unhappy, hurt or upset.

One way to hold this word: a sound coming through a wall. You cannot see who it is, but you stop walking, because crying is a sound that will not let you carry on as if nothing were happening. Two of the word's uses are that sound for real — the crying itself, and the person doing it. The other two keep only the second half of the picture: nothing is in tears, but something is calling out loudly enough that ignoring it feels wrong.

Crying is simply cry plus -ing, which turns the action into a thing you can name and describe.
crying 就是 cry 加上 -ing 來的：-ing 把一個動作變成可以指稱、可以拿來形容的東西。所以它既能當「哭這件事」的名詞，也能放在名詞前面說「正在哭的」。
