Used before the name of a tree, `weeping` means the branches grow downwards, hanging in long soft curves towards the ground instead of reaching up. The most famous is the **weeping willow** (垂柳), and you will also meet weeping cherry, weeping fig, weeping birch. Notice how the word works: it is not saying the tree is sad. It is saying the tree LOOKS like a person crying — head down, arms down, hair falling forward. English gives the tree the shape of a grieving person, and the name stuck. In gardening and botany this is a fixed technical label, so a plant seller writing "weeping form" simply means the drooping type, with no feeling attached at all. That said, because of the picture inside it, writers and songwriters lean on the weeping willow whenever they want sadness in a scene, so the word does carry a mood in poems and stories. The same word has other lives you should keep separate: `weeping` as the -ing form of the verb `weep` (crying, especially quietly and for a long time — a formal, literary word: "she was weeping"); `weeping` as a noun for that crying ("the sound of weeping"); and a medical use, "a weeping wound," meaning a wound that leaks clear fluid. The tree sense is the one here, and it is the one that behaves like an adjective glued to the front of a plant name.
