You can think of concerned as a line drawn from a situation to you: this thing touches me, I am inside it. From that one line the whole word grows — if something touches you, it is on your mind; if it weighs on your mind, you are worried; and if you want to say which part of a situation you are talking about, you draw the line yourself with 'as far as … is concerned'.
