Picture separate pieces being placed together to make one whole — and then two questions you can ask about that. Looking backwards: what pieces is this made of? Looking forwards: who put them there, and how are they arranged? The word answers both, which is why it covers the make-up of a committee, a piece of music, and where the mountain sits in a photograph.
