    To be or become very hot, especially out in strong sunshine or in a closed space, so that it feels like being cooked.

    文法不及物動詞：後面不接受詞。

    這是 broil 從烹調延伸出來的用法：人或地方熱到「像被架在火上烤一樣」。它常用進行式 be broiling，也常說 broiling hot、a broiling afternoon。說 broiling 而不說 hot，等於在說這個熱已經到了難受的程度，聽的人會知道你在抱怨，所以它很適合聊天和寫故事。跟 boiling 不同的是，broiling 幾乎只講溫度；要說「氣到爆」是 boiling mad，不能用 broiling。
