You can picture 'bin' as an open-topped container you drop unwanted things into — the rubbish bin in the corner of the room. From that one everyday object grow both the storage container and the verb 'to bin' (to put in the bin, i.e. throw away).

trash container · noun · B1

A container that you put rubbish or waste in.

throw away · verb · B1

To throw something away because you do not want it.
