Been is the finished form of 'be' that you put after 'have/has' to reach back from now into the past — it says a state or event has happened and still touches the present. Picture a line drawn from this moment backward: 'I have been busy' means the busy stretches up to now. From that one job — linking past to present — its other uses (have been to a place, been there done that) all follow.
