Latin aspirare = ad- (toward) + spirare (to breathe): to breathe toward something. The English noun keeps that sense of a longing directed at a distant goal.

拉丁文 aspirare 由 ad-（朝向）+ spirare（呼吸）組成，字面是「朝著某個方向呼吸」。中文的「抱負」剛好也帶著同一種身體感：氣往哪裡去，人就往哪裡去。這條線索讓「向上呼吸」和「人生想達成的目標」連成同一個畫面。

Latin aspirare literally means “to breathe on / breathe toward”. Phonetics borrowed the word in its plainest, most literal sense: the breath itself.

同樣來自拉丁文 aspirare（朝著…呼吸），但這一支走的是最字面的路：不是心裡的嚮往，就是嘴巴真的送出去的那口氣。語音學需要一個詞來指這個現象，就直接拿了拉丁文最原本的意思。
