AB is one of the four common human blood types in the system, together with A, B, and O. If your type is AB, your red cells carry both the A marker and the B marker. Hospitals use those capital letters when they match blood for a transfusion. People with AB red cells can often receive A, B, AB, or O red cells, so they are sometimes called universal recipients; AB plasma, though, is the kind that can go to others. You will see AB on donor cards, lab reports, and hospital forms. In speech it is two letters, A-B, not a new spoken word. It comes up in medical talk, pregnancy notes, and blood-donation drives, not in ordinary chat. Type AB is the least common of the four main groups in many populations, but it is still a normal blood group, not a disease name.
