An abbot is a man who is in charge of a monastery — a house where monks live. He leads the community, keeps the rules, and stands for the house when the outside world comes to the gate. It is a Christian (often Catholic) title, not a general word for “boss of a holy place.” The woman with the same kind of job is an .
