This is a very offensive word some people in Australia have used for an Aboriginal person. It is a short, ugly , and it is used to insult. Do not say it. Do not write it except when you are studying why it hurts, as you are here. If you need a respectful way to talk about Australia's First Peoples, use the names they use for themselves, or Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, or First Nations, depending on whom you mean. Though actually, a people's name is not just informal here, the way Aussie can be a casual word for an Australian. This particular short form carries contempt. Treat it like other racial slurs: recognise it if you meet it, and refuse to pass it on.
