From Middle English youres, attested since the 1300s; your + -s, formed by analogy with his.

源自中古英文 youres，就是 your 加上 -s，仿照 his 的形式。

Think of 'yours' as a small word that already carries the noun inside it. Where 'your book' needs two words, 'yours' does the whole job alone: it points at the person you are talking to and says 'the thing on that side belongs to you.' Because the noun is already swallowed up, nothing follows it — you say 'This seat is yours', never 'this yours seat'.

可以想成 yours 是一個「已經把名詞吞進去」的詞。your 後面一定要接東西（your book），yours 則自己一個人就把整件事講完了：它指向「跟你講話的那個人」，然後說「那邊那個東西是屬於你的」。正因為名詞已經藏在裡面，後面就不能再接名詞——所以會說 This seat is yours，不會說 this yours seat。
