You can think of trafficking as a long hidden line of movement. Something that is not allowed to be is picked up at one end, passed along in secret from hand to hand, and sold at the other end. Trafficking is traffic plus -ing. Traffic has long carried the sense of goods going to and fro in trade, and -ing turns it into the activity itself, so the word names trade that keeps moving.

「trafficking」是 traffic 加上 -ing。traffic 本來就有「貨物來往交易」的意思,-ing 把它變成「正在進行的活動」。所以字面上就是「東西一直在流通買賣」,只是今天這個字幾乎只留在違法那一邊。
