The word says what it is: thunder plus bird. Picture a huge bird high above a storm, wings so wide that beating them is what makes the thunder roll. Everything else with this name is borrowing that picture — something big, fast, and arriving with force.

The packet's Wiktionary entry gives the origin plainly: thunderbird is thunder + bird. It also records that the British railway use comes from the 1960s television series Thunderbirds, and traces that name back to the same word.

字源資料寫得很直接：thunderbird 就是 thunder 加 bird。同一份資料還說，英國鐵路那個用法來自 1960 年代的影集《Thunderbirds》，而那個劇名再往前追，也還是這個字。所以「命名」這條線是有記錄的，不是我們自己接上去的。
