As a noun, a convertible is a car with a roof that can fold down or come off, letting the inside be open to the air. As an adjective, convertible describes anything that can be changed or exchanged into another form — convertible currency can be exchanged for other currencies, and convertible furniture (like a sofa bed) can change from one thing into another.
