taxi (1907) is a shortening of taximeter cab; the taximeter was the fare-measuring device (French taximètre, German Taxameter, from Medieval Latin taxa 'charge'). The verb for an aircraft moving on the ground appeared in 1911, in allusion to the way a taxi cruises slowly along looking for fares.
taxi（1907）是 taximeter cab 的縮寫；taximeter 就是車上那台計費表（法文 taximètre、德文 Taxameter，源自中世紀拉丁文 taxa「費用」）。飛機在地面滑行的動詞用法出現在 1911 年，取的是計程車在街上慢慢巡繞找客人的那個樣子，所以這兩個看似無關的意思其實同一個畫面。
