From second (unit of time): Old French seconde, from Medieval Latin secunda, short for secunda pars minuta 'second diminished part'.
源自 second「秒」，來自拉丁文 secunda「第二（次細分）」。
Picture the word second with its tail cut off. What is left is quick to say and quick to write — which is exactly why it lives in two places: in casual speech, where it means 'a tiny moment', and on screens and labels, where it saves space next to a number.
可以想成：把 second 這個字的尾巴剪掉，剩下的部分講起來快、寫起來也快。也因為短，它剛好落在兩個地方：一個是隨口說話的時候，用來表示「一下下」；另一個是螢幕、標籤、說明書上，接在數字後面省版面。
