核心畫面

One sharp line cut into a surface. From that single notch grow all the meanings: notches kept as a TALLY became the running count of points in a game; a deeper notch every twentieth mark made 'score' mean twenty; and marks set down on a page became the written music. The cut is the seed; tallying is the trunk.
