From Latin popularis "belonging to / accepted by the people," from populus "the people." So popularity is, almost literally, how far the crowd takes something as its own.
源自拉丁文 popularis「屬於人民的、被大眾接受的」，字根 populus 就是「人民、群眾」。所以 popularity 的核心幾乎就是字面：「有多少人把你當成自己人、接納你」的程度。
