Obscurity has two related meanings. First, it means the state of not being famous or well known - a writer living in obscurity is unknown to most people, even if their work is good. Second, it can mean something written or explained in a way that is hard to understand, unclear, or hidden from view. People often use it about someone's fame going up or down: 'she rose from obscurity to become famous' or 'he back into obscurity.'
