A hard white cover that is put around a broken arm, leg, or finger. It is made from cloth soaked in a plaster mix that sets hard, and it holds the bone still so that it can mend.
石膏（固定骨折用）
Soft white plaster that takes the shape of whatever it touches, and then goes hard and keeps it. While it is wet it will follow any curve; once it sets, nothing about that shape can move any more. Both uses of the word come out of that one change from soft to hard.
可以想成一團白色的石膏，軟的時候貼上什麼就變成什麼形狀。它會跟著每一道彎、每一個凹痕走。等它乾了，形狀就被鎖住，再也動不了。這個「從軟變硬、把形狀留下來」的過程，大概就是這個詞兩種用法共同的畫面。差別只在於：留住的是骨頭的位置，還是別的東西的樣子。
