Think of a long word with its tail cut off. What is left, physio, is the front piece, and the front piece on its own does not decide what you are talking about — the room you are standing in does. In a clinic it means the person treating you or the treatment itself; on a it means the subject. The old Greek piece underneath, phusis, points at the body and the way it naturally works, which is what all three long words are about.
