Compound of pea + nut; perhaps a folk etymology of pinda.
pea「豆子」加 nut「堅果」；有一說是附會 pinda 一字而來。
A small pale brown nut in a thin, shell that grows under the ground — cheap, everywhere, sold by the bag and eaten a handful at a time. That very smallness and cheapness is what the second sense borrows.
